Yuletide

So laura47 convinced me to sign up for Yuletide. It feels a little odd, since I don't really read or write fanfic, and I've consumed very little media in the past couple years. Well, that's not entirely true. Sometimes I have periods where I read a lot of Utena fic (mostly focusing on Juri, Ruka, Utena, or Anthy). I read an unfinished novel-length Evangelion-His Dark Materials fusion fic, and I'm maybe a third of the way through some Evangelion-Utena fusion fic which ultranos_fic recommended. I think I tried to get into X-Files fic and Harry Potter fic years ago, but nothing ever caught my fancy. I've written original fiction, and I've even written RPF about my friends and acquaintances (for the thrill of people going, "Wow, that is seriously weird.") But I've certainly never been involved in the fanfic community.

I mostly signed up because I like excuses to write short things with deadlines that aren't too far off. And even though I don't really read or write fanfic, I do have a habit of watching something and then saying, "Oh, somebody should totally write x and y slash!" I like suggesting weird fic ideas to the universe and hoping that they will magically come into existence on the internet, and Yuletide seems to be a force for the fulfillment of that notion. I like looking for subtext in media. I like seeing the subtext made text in unexpected ways, and I like the text being manipulated and expanded upon to go places the canon never meant it to go.

From the request list I got yesterday, there's only one thing I'm at all capable of writing, but that one should be fun. I've already got a little bit written. We'll see how long I can keep up the style I started in. It's not exactly what I normally write, and it does not flow fast.
