Oct. 6th, 2003 05:33 pmCurrently in a cluster in building 35, about to do more work on CAD drawings of yoyo parts which I'll be making in the next couple weeks.
My 2.006 professor mentioned that she hadn't eeen me in lecture today when I went by her office to drop off the problem set (which I'd been off working on during lecture). It's nice to know that my absence is actually noted. It even makes me want to go to class more. Which I have most of teh time so far, because classes are mostly useful (and smaller than in past terms).
I spent most of the weekend playing The Morning After. It's an amnesia based LARP, which was interesting in that receiving your character's history in pieces makes each memory have a much deeper impact on you, and your interactions with other people keep changing as you redifine yourselves. My character didn't feel defined until saturday after dinner, but then I was really able to get into it. It could even be described as thought provoking. And, damn, was I a bitter, bitter person.
Still, a lot of the memories didn't tell me things I hadn't already figured out from earlier ones, and I felt they came on too slow. I would have liked to get them in half the time, and then had more time in the game for, well, doing things. Furthermore, my charcater had spent most of her life trying to get out of a bad situation, and every chance to do that kept being taken away from her. Early on, it seemed like she might really have a chance to change things for herself and the people she cared about this time, but the way things were structured, there was nothing I could do to keep her from getting a final kick in the face where this opportunity was also taken away from her. So, I had a character I liked, some good players to interact with, and if I'd received the character's memories faster and then had a day to actually do the things that many of us thought we were going to do, it would have been a very good game.
Now the girl who just came in the cluster has stopped being quite so annoying, somaybe i'll be able to get a some more work done. Or maybe she'll incite me to leave in a few minutes and work elsewhere.
